Media Technology

Communication Technology comes in many forms and targets different audiences. “Presently computers, the internet, mobile phones, television and VCR’s are competing with on and other in the ever growing electronic arena.” (Wikipedia, Media Culture retrieved Jun 2010)
Radio has been around for years and delivering messages to audiences with speed and mobility. It can deliver the most urgent of messages upon receipt in times of crisis. When electricity was out when hurricane Katrina hit radio was the method to reach the victims and supply them with information.

Video comes in various forms as well. Movies, music videos and cell phone videos. Video can also document a conversation, an accident or family event. The audiences can be many. It provides the ability to visualize the event and preserve it for future review. Police are now using video cameras when pulling over a suspect and documenting the event as it happens.

Television is used for almost every public relations event because of the enormous audience it can reach. The target audiences are targeted by the viewing time and the type of channel and what it’s type of programming. Public television, Logo, and national networks deliver information to their specific audiences. It is a very effective form of communication because of it’s visual delivery.

“The Internet (also known simply as “the Net” or less precisely as “the Web”) is a more interactive medium of mass media, and can be briefly descried as “a network of networks”. Specifically, it is world wide, publicly accessible network of interconnected computer networks that transmit data by packet switching using the standard Internet Potocol (IP).” (Wikipedia, Mass media, retrieved June 2010) Audiences can be a single individual or large international audiences depending on what the subject is. It can be used as a research tool or to communicate to family members.
